"The Ridge"

4744 Burnside Rd., Sebastopol, CA 95472

We spent Thanksgiving '04, in the Bay Area visiting our son. While he was finishing his finals, we set up a couple days with a realtor to check out the coast, north of the city. We had fallen in love with this area ever since we camped at Samuel P. Taylor State Park, in 1982, during our medical residency interviews in San Francisco. We saw all sorts of homes-- from a geodesic dome to a rental unit on a golf course. But the one we now call "the Ridge" was special.

Map of location, related to the Bay / map of local area.

The house is not exactly our style, but it's interesting on the inside, and should be fun to modify over time:

...

It's built as sort of a "house within a house" to make use of passive solar heating.

But the real attraction is the setting-- five acres, on top of a 950' ridge, eight miles from the Pacific:

view west, early morning

view east, Santa Rosa in the valley

plenty of room for steel

when it's really clear, you can see ships

Bev and I are currently working on "the Barn" -- our future studio space.

Some recent playing with time lapse photography.
